Thomas C. Quirk Jr. 91 of Kutztown passed away July 9th in Pittsburgh. He was the husband of the late
Jane (Reiber) Quirk. Thomas was born in Pittsburgh a son of the late Dr. Thomas C. and Ruth Pyle Quirk.
He was a graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School in 1941 where he played varsity football and baseball.
Tom was a WW 2 Navy Veteran.
Tom was a graduate of Edinboro University in 1948 with a BS degree in Fine Arts and the University of Pittsburgh in 1964
with a Masters degree in Education. He taught art in the Canon-McMillan School District in Canonsburg from 1954 to 1966
and was a professor of Art at Kutztown University from 1966 to 1989, where he taught painting and drawing. .
Tom is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and has exhibited his work in numerous one man and group shows
throughout the United state since the 1960’s. His most recent sculpture,”Assumption of the Blessed Mother”, is
exhibited at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Kutztown, where he is also a member. He also provided illustrations for a number of publications by Athenium Press, Dover Publications, and Rodale Press.
Tom is survived by his children Ellen Fraumann of Madison, NJ, Ruth (Gil) Tily of Phoenix, Az., Elizabeth (Frank) Woods of Loudonville, NY,
Thomas III (Mary Connolley) of Highland Park, Il, Patrick (Mary Brandon) of Pittsburgh, Brian (Victoria Hobbs) of Naples, Italy;
19 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two brothers Richard F. and George P.. He was predeceased by a brother James S.
Tom will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family at St. Mary’s RC Church, Kutztown, Sunday July 13th from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m.
until time of Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at St. Mary’s RC Church, 14833 Kutztown Rd., Kutztown, Pa. 19530
