Robert Schappell

Robert “Bob” Schappell, 84, of Kutztown, passed away on November 19, 2022 after hospice illness at Maidencreek Place in Reading. He was born in Kutztown PA to Clarence and Evelyn Schappell and was the husband of the late Sandra (Nester) Schappell for over 60 years, having been together since high school. He worked for his father’s Kutztown food market after proudly serving in Korea as a US Army MP. A skilled tradesman, he later worked his way up to regional supervisor for Acme Markets Inc. until retirement. He was also a familiar face to many on local golf courses and at the Fairgrounds Farmers Market's German Butcher Shop. Bob was a personable community volunteer for the Kutztown Jaycees, and the Lions Club and Hope Lutheran Church in Bowers, yet also treasured quiet evenings by the fire with friends and family. He is survived by his siblings (and spouses): Gloria (Paul) Dubbs, Stuart (Judy) Schappell, and Harold (Elaine) Schappell; also by his four children: Aimee, Dustin, Tate, Tanya; grandchildren: Sasha, Robert, Sheena, Samantha, Rutger, Anya, Olivia, Maya, Christian; and great-grandchildren: Cole, Hailey, Isabella, Chase, Charlotte, Liam, Thomas, Scarlett; and his son-in-law Bob Scherer.
