John Edward Stolz, 81, died Wednesday , August 27 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Blvd., Allentown.
Born January 29, 1933 in Hummelstown, Dauphin County, PA, he was the only child of Clarence Leroy Stolz and
Beulah Mae (Baum) Stolz. He was married August 23, 1958 in St. John Episcopal Church, Scranton, PA to Barbara
Ann (Edmunds) Stolz with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage.
John’s education began in the one-room Richmond Township Center School , located in Berks County.
He graduated from Kutztown High School in 1951, where he served as Class President. John attended
Kutztown State Teacher’s College, graduating in 1956 with a BS in Art Education . After graduation , John served in the
US Army. In 1960 John graduated from The School for American Craftsmen, Rochester Institute of Technology,
Rochester, New York, with a Master of Fine Arts in Woodworking and Furniture Design. After teaching art in East Orange
New Jersey Public Schools and the Governor Mifflin School District, Shillington, PA, John returned to teach at Kutztown
University , where he retired as a Professor of Art in 1991, after 27 years of educating. While at Kutztown University ,
John was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award. John’s woodwork was recognized and exhibited in museums
and private collections throughout the United States.
John was a member of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, Douglassville, PA. He was also a member of the Kutztown Area
Historical Society, where he served as a Corresponding Secretary.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, Lise Elisabeth (Stolz) Thorup wife of Kent Davis Thorup, grandchildren Benjamin Davis
Thorup and Abigail Christiana Thorup, and his son ,Christinan Evan Stolz, husband of Diane Lynn (Deisher) Stolz,
grandchildren Zachary Evan Stolz and Allison Nicole Stolz.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 10 AM, from St. Gabriel's Eposcopal Church, 1188 Ben Franklin Highway, Route 422 East, Douglassville, PA 19518
