Jeanette M. (Wentzel) Ebling, 81, of the Topton Lutheran Home, formerly of Kutztown, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Born in Lakehurst, New Jersey she was the daughter of the late Grover and May (Bailey) Wentzel. Jeanette was a 1957 graduate of Kutztown High School and a 1960 graduate of Reading Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for the Kutztown School District for over 25 years, retiring in 2001. She was an active member of St. John’s UCC Kutztown serving as President and Secretary of the Women of St. John’s and teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed volunteering at the Kutztown Community Library and was active with the Kutztown Historical Society and Kutztown Women’s Club.
Jeanette was the most loving and caring mother anyone could ever ask for. Her passion for raising her children spilled over to her many years teaching and nurturing children within the Kutztown Elementary School library. This coincided with her deep love for reading, which she enjoyed throughout her life. It was not uncommon to find her with a good book and a cat curled up on her lap.
She especially loved celebrating birthdays and holidays, surrounded by family and friends. Whether it be the cozy Thanksgiving and Christmas-time gatherings or large camping and picnic events during the summer, she was instrumental in making sure everyone was happy. Her beloved grandchildren were what she was most proud of, babysitting along the way, teaching, reading to, and helping to make them who they are today.
Jeanette was a huge Phillies fan, but her biggest support was for her kids throughout their youth and high school sports and other activities. Always there as a mom for everyone, she was well known and liked within her local community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by sons: Jeffrey A. husband of Molly of Kutztown, Jerald B. husband of Amy of Kutztown, Jonathan C. husband of Jeanette of Kutztown; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister Joan wife of Allen Haring of Kutztown; and brother James Wentzel husband of Lynda of Mechanicsburg. She was predeceased by brother Jay Wentzel. A memorial service will take place at St. Joh's UCC, Kutztown, on September 3, 2021 at 10am. Visitation with the family will be at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kutztown Community Library, 70 Bieber Alley, Kutztown, PA 19530. Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home Inc. in charge of arrangements.
