Jean T. McClure, 99, died on May 10th 2018 in Phoebe Allentown Care Center, Allentown, Pa. where she resided for many years. Born in 1919 on a farm near Oconee, Illinois Jean was the daughter of Mavis Price (Huttes) and Roy Ireland. She graduated from Pana High School, Pana Illinois and attended both Illinois State University and Eureka College. She taught for two years in one-room schoolhouses in Illinois before marrying Donald J. McClure in June 1941.
Jean lived for forty years in Bradford, Pennsylvania where she and Don raised their family. She taught first and second grade for 22 years in the Bradford Area School District and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
In 1992 Jean relocated to Kutztown, Pennsylvania. She became an active member of St. John’s United Church, the Kutztown Historical Society and the East Penn Valley Chapter of Retired teachers.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Donald (1978) and by her brothers John Huttes, Robert Huttes, Jerry Huttes, and sisters Norma (Huttes) Endris, Patsy (Huttes) Culberson, Joyce (Huttes) Maton and Rilla (Huttes) Miller. She is survived by her sister Mavis (Huttes) Spesard and her four children: Judith C. (McClure) Giddings (Richard) Dover, NC, Thomas McClure (Joan), Geneva New York, Kathleen (McClure) Edelstein (Thomas), Fleetwood, Pa., James McClure and Fran Loges, Ashville, NC; eight grandchildren Carole Tempel, Matthew, Michael, and Mark McClure, Emily and Rachel Edelstein, Kelly and Cooper McClure; five great-grandchildren: Ben and Sam Manship, Aaron, Abigail Jean, and Sarah McClure.
Family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the dedicated staff of the Phoebe Allentown Health Care Center and Lehigh Valley Hospice.
Visitation with the family Sunday May 20th, 2018 2pm to 4pm at the Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home Inc., 346 West Main St., Kutztown. Graveside services at the family’s convenience in the Price Cemetery, Oconee Illinois. In Lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jean may be made to St. John’s UCC Church, 257 West Walnut St., Kutztown or the Kutztown Area Historical Society, box 307, Kutztown Pa. 19530.
