Arlan R. Schroeder, 82, of Kutztown, passed away in the afternoon hours, Monday, March 3, 2014, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Carole L. (Fabian) Schroeder, whom he married November 24, 1956. Born November 9, 1931, in Kempton, he was a son of the late Ira J. and Elda M. (Bond) Schroeder. He graduated from Kutztown High School in 1949 and was employed by the former Christman Ice Cream Co., Hamburg, as a freezer operator for three years.  In 1952, he was drafted into the Army and served in Korea, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Schroeder was employed by East Penn Mfg. Co., Lyon Station, PA, for over 30 years, starting as a truck driver and retiring as Industrial Sales Co-coordinator in 1995. He helped to organize the Kempton Community Center and was a volunteer worker for about 28 years.  He was a member of the Kempton Rod &Gun Club, a lifetime member of the Kempton Fire Co., a member of the Kutztown Fire Co., the Albany Township Historical Society and a former member of the Kempton Lions Club. He was co-chairman and a tireless worker for the 1974 Kempton Centennial Celebration. Mr. Schroeder was a Lutheran and served on the church councils of both Jerusalem (Red) Church and Frieden’s Church in Stony Run, PA. He was an avid genealogist and took great pleasure in helping other people in addition to family members, often times compiling a genealogy for them also. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Kimberly J. Ring, Allentown, Karen L. Fleisher, Kutztown, and Kenneth J.R. Schroeder, Haines City, FL; his brother: Dennis J.(Charlotte) Schroeder , Kutztown; 6 grandchildren & 7 nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his son, Kyle F. Schroeder and by a brother, Luke I. Schroeder. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 11 AM, from Jerusalem (Red) Church, 15 Red Church Rd., Kempton, PA 19529, with Mr. Robert Billig, S.A.L.M. officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the adjoining cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, March 7, 2014, from 7-9 PM, in the Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Inc., 346 W. Main St., Kutztown, PA 19530 and Saturday, from 10 AM until time of service at the church.
